Joe, Germans using technical or scientific language have abandoned the funny letter ß and use ss (grüsst) instead. But grüßt is still used in old-fashioned literary German. The umlaut is still necessary in either case. Similarly, edelweiss and edelweiß are acceptable. You must be consistent, however (Now did I do the hmtl correctly?)
