I am seeking this on behalf of a dear friend, an 82-year-old gentleman who, years ago, knew a monologue about King Edward's abdication and marriage to Mrs Simpson. He thinks it may be called 'Edward and the Lion'. I had a trawl around the net and came up with Edward and the Lioness, but it is not the one.He wrote out for me what he can remember. Can anyone supply the rest of it? It would make an elderly gentleman very happy indeed.
Nah, yerv all heerd abaht ahr Albert
Hoo was et up be a lion in t' zoo
Nah this tale's abaht ahr Edward
And ha he was gobbled up too
Now wen ahr Edward was a prince
'e thowt 'ed like a fling
So up 'e went tut drawing room
Tu 'av a word wit' king
'Ahm leaving palace tomorrow',
Sez Edward to his dad
King sez, 'Okay
Have a good time, lad'
So Edward packed up suitcase
Put in top hat, white tie an' tails
An' off he went wi' brass band playing
Gor bless the Prince o Wales
When Edward met Missis Simpson
For that wer' Wallis' last name
He said, 'Here's lass I'm after'
And Wallie she thowt much the same
Any help in completing this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
