Thread Name: Lyr Req: Don't You Remember the Time?
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Don't you remember the time?
The following information comes from the Indiana State University Library at http://odin.indstate.edu/level1.dir/cml/rbsc/kirk/ps1914.html:
Title: Don't you remember the time? First Line: Just down the lane, over the stile Chorus: When the shadows fall, and the stars begin to peep Music by: Williams, W. R. Words by: Williams, W. R. P/P/D: Chicago : Will Rossiter, c1919. Location: SPC, KIRK PS 1914-1919
It was recorded by Louise Terrell & Charles Hart, whose recording was reissued on "Old Time Victrola Music: Popular Tunes (1920-23) #1". There is a sound sample on this page: http://www.besmark.com/popular3.html - from which I transcribed this:
"When the shadows fall and the stars begin to peep, When the little birds and the flowers fall asleep, Memory brings back a picture complete, Dear little girlie of mine."
It was also recorded by Freeny's Barn Dance Band [Fonzie Cannon on guitar with Leslie & Hendrix Freeny on fiddles] 12/16/30. That recording appears on the 4-CD collection "Roots 'n' Blues: The Retrospective 1925-1950" Columbia/Legacy CD C4K-47911, 1992; on "Mississippi String Bands, Vol. 1: 1928-1935" Document CD 8009, 1997; and on "Traditional Fiddle Music of Mississippi, Vol. 2," County LP 529, 1975. A sound sample at CDNOW was all instrumental.
It was also performed by Red Mountain White Trash on "Chicken's Don't Roost Too High" Whoop It Up CD #102, 1999.
