Subject: RE: Help: Printing off threads??
There is a duplicate thread at Printing off threads.

It hasn't gotten much action, so it should be allowed to die peacefully, but there were two comments posted that may be of interest:

From: Mr Happy: 27-Aug-02 - 09:41 PM

just highlight [right mouse & hold] what you want[it'll change colour to dark bloo]then go to edit & clik copy then open new page in word. go to edit again & click paste. then you can print as normal

From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca: 27-Aug-02 - 09:51 PM

The other possible way to do that, is to click on the name of the person who posted the message in the thread.

You'll get a list of ALL the posting made by that person. Just select from the list presented and you have just that message.

More work than that presented above though.

I'm not sure about Mr Happy's "right click" to select. Maybe it's a Mac thing? Standard Windows is a left click and drag to select. You can sometimes get better precision by clicking a "start point" and then holding down Shift while you click an "end point." When I try to select large pieces by dragging, I invariably run off the edge of the screen and get one of those "uncontrolled superscrolls."

I wonder if George Seto discovered his method (interesting) when he tried to start a selection in a clicky(?). You do need to find a "dead" space to click to start the selection. You can usually end a selection in a link, but results may be unpredictable. It's usually easier to copy a little extra and delete it after you've pasted into something editable.

Those interested in Sandra in Sydney's "method" may note that IE gives me an "Edit in Word97" option under the File selection that may be what she's talking about. This opens the html page for the webpage in Word - and has the "quaint" feature that you can't close the Word document until you "save" it somewhere. Unless you're editing to re-post on the Web, I wouldn't think it would be too convenient to try to use it for saving someone's comments from a thread.

If I want to look at the html, I usually just "right click" on the web page and select the "view source" option. If I needed to "send something to the office," I'd probably copy directly from the web page and paste into a Word document, and send it to myself as an email attachment.

I can understand Sandra's reluctance to do "real world word processing" on a portable, but with a $15 "real mouse" plugged into most laptops, most of the select/copy/paste/print options discussed are quite workable. Most laptops of recent vintage will detect a mouse if you connect it before you turn on, and will ignore it if it's not there - so you don't need to carry the mouse with you if you won't need it outside the house.

I deleted the other thread and transferred the messages here, so there may be some duplication above
