Paliodonna di Udine. Traditional bareback horserace. Palio races are held throughout Italy, but the one in Udine is the ONLY one for female riders. It is much more genteel than the famous one in Siena.

It is also a festival of arts, and the first few times we went there was traditional music and dance from various countries. We performed on the main stage as a duo called Pavane - which is where I got my Mudcat name.

Last year, my daughter was one of the riders, and won her race - pictures on the web site. Takes a lot to race thoroughbreds bareback!

Due to financial constraints, the event is much smaller this year, just two days instead of 4, so it will be held on Sat 7th and Sunday 8th.
