Can't pass up the chance to reply to the appeal to "political correctness."
At least one authority at the U of K entomology department maintains that the chigoe and the common chigger are two separate critters. One bites and leaves, the other burrows. Both are too small to be seen under most circumstances.
Both itch.
There are a lot of "home remedies," none of which work very well. The only satisfactory response to either is to scratch.
