Having left the uk 18 months ago to take up work in the NZ I have read the Whitby thread with a combined sense of nostalgia and amusement. You lucky folk - ! Our local *folk* club here in NZ ran a celtic theme night (somewhere near St P's day) and they managed to go for 3 hours without singing one Irish song or playing a trad. tune. I can't remember them playing a Scottish one for that matter, either. Plenty of Neil Young and Bob Dylan though. As an elitist folkie (grin - smirk) who has somewhat eschewed the Dubliners song repertoire for over 30 years (except for some great instrumentals- listen to their version of The Acrobat) I am now eating up their words in some hope (vain) hope of getting a sing song going. And I am a bloody banjo player!!Long live Whitby -
