Thread Name: Nellies Session this Sunday
Subject: RE: Nellies Session this Sunday
Here is my opinion for what it is worth.I will take the chance on being called a bit of a fence sitter.

Are we going to be dictated to by a boozers labourer when she might be taking the high road in a couple of weeks? Having a bad day my arse!!!!!! I have seen those objectionable notices about setting man traps and advocating flogging and transportation for the little mites who dare sashay into the hallowed darts boutique.

The track record for managers (and that is all they are)is not good, we have seen several changes in the last four years.

This self apointed folk music police person should be apraised of a few facts about our beloved sessions.

The session in Nellies has been running for four years now.In that time countless thousands of pounds have been put across the bar for the benefit of Samual Smiths shareholders by people like myself and all you lot.

For whant of a better word (god I hate the term folkie)the peformers and afficianados of the folk music tradition are not usually noted for there unruly behavior, indeed in the four years I have co hosted this gig with the deanmeister (thats your bonfire urinated on oakley) I have not seen one bit of trouble, not even dummy spitting out peter!!

Any children that have turned up have been well behaved and in a lot of cases have contributed to the sessions, most of all they have been in the collective care of all the peopple at the session, not just there parents, were do you see that in the so called children friendly pubs were in a lot of cases children are allowed to run riot? In the words of the great Robert Tressle " A place that is not fit for women and children does not deserve to exist" That certainly is not the case in Nellies.

All the people who turn up to do a bit are all vollunteers and are not under any contract to appear. We do it because we love and enjoy doing it,and for the most part so do all the regulars.

It would be nice if the odd pint was slipped across, but to me that is not important, what is would be nice, not to say polite even, is that we get a little apreciation,a simple "thank you" would be enough,as they staggered to the safe under the weight of the till containing all our collective monies.

It would be a thousand pities if all that had been built up over the last years were to be destroyed by one short sited, vindictive, beige person.

The Nellies pub is a great tradition with great links with the Folk Music tradition, let us keep that in mind.

However,it will no harm to mention to the said boozers labourer that, as people have stated there are more pubs in the area, the one at the other end of Beverley Westwood springs to mind,I only know it as the Drum and Monkey it used to have a folk freindly landlord .I dont know if that still is the case.

I am only sorry I wont be able to attend this weeks session, the manager of Punch the Horse has got other plans for me,will watch this space with bated breath for any feedback.
