Thread Name: Lyr ADD: Lily of Picadilly / Lily from Piccadilly
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Lily of Picadilly
I found this excerpt from someone's WW2 memoir:
(http://www.historicalroleplay.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=53&topic=7)"The parties at nearby Debden's air base have entered into legend, their house band (The Debden Eagles) being so fine it was booked throughout the British Isles and famed for its theme song (Lily from Piccadilly)."
And another quote from another memoir:
(http://www.geocities.com/cytherainathens/golfing/golfing38.html)"Yours truly sang with the band. At Tetley – Debden; we called it Tetley after two farmers who owned the land. First it was just a base band for dances, but later on we toured all over. Folks came from miles around to see us. Best known for our theme song," he recalled, launching into Lily from Piccadilly. Of Eddie, who stirred again during the number, he said, "My tongue-tied pal was real hot stuff on the trumpet."
Here's a German site that mentions a song called "Lilly von Piccadilly":

But, strangely, those are the only references I can find to the song, even making allowances for variant spelling, like LILY/LILLY/LILLIE, and PICADILLY/PICCADILLY.
(I also found references to a WW2 military airplane, an instrumental jazz piece, and a racehorse, all called "Piccadilly Lilly")
