Thread creep -- greetings performed with hands & arms: Remember the mayor of the village in Young Frankenstein? He had a wooden arm, which he would twist and yank and push into position to give a salute, and then twist and yank and push it back down. He also stuck darts into it when he was playing darts with Gene Wilder, who was trying to be nonchalant and also trying to cover up the moans and howls of the Frankenstein monster. It was hilarious.I think giving a sharp salute to anyone you'd rather not shake hands with, followed by a wide and friendly smile, would probably put them off, puzzle them, and prevent damage to your hand-bones.
