"Mason jars" are so called from their manufacturer, the Ball-Mason company, here in Indiana, which was also called Ball Brothers, as I recall (I don't remember which name was first). A "Great Name" in Kokomo, I believe it is. That may not be the exact name of the company, but it should be close. For those few people who still can their own vegetables, I think that it about the only remaining source of jars and caps for home canning in the United States.Dave Oesterreich
