Mudguard, I clicked on the link and checked out the English laws it mentioned, but they weren't particularly weird laws. One about needing to have a TV licence ( the benefit of this law is 2 whole channels without annoying adverts) and one about not leaving luggage unattended - which is a perfectly understandable response to the threat of terrorism. Not much else.
