Still on the nostalgia trip.Anybody remember soda fountains? Almost every drug store of any size had one. You'd sit at the counter and you could order light lunches (sandwiches, pie--and shakes or malts made with real milk, ice cream, and flavored syrups mixed in a big metal can from which you could fill the big glass a couple of times). And almost all the soft drinks--including Coke--were made with a squirt or two of syrup and carbonated water on tap. You could even have a couple of different syrups, say, like a chocolate Coke. Whatever crazy combination you could think up; a nickel a squirt, as I recall.
I used to like Green River (greenish colored syrup and carbonated water), but I never really knew what the heck it was. Tasted good, though. Anybody know?
