One of the things about roadkill in the US is that the species that are most likely to be hit by a car are ones that are not usually eaten. Oppossums, armadillos, skunks, snakes etc. A few people will stop for a freshly smacked rabbit or squirrel. But deer are another matter. Just about everybody where I live has no problem with throwing a just-struck deer in the back of the pickup truck. But it should only be done if driving a pickup truck. Our modern-day folklore is peppered with tales of folks who have thrown a "dead" dear in the back of a passenger car, only to have the nearly stunned animal come to life and tear hell out of the car.
