We waved Charlie and Judy through Sheridan with the checkered flag, since they had to get to Portland, check in and return the car that night, but they did have time to join us for some salmon and corn on the cob and sing a couple tunes.
Charlie's been getting mustier and dustier (daytime anyway) in Powell's, I believe, Portland's block long used book store, and last night a few of us assembled at the Elephant and Castle downtown to hear Spinnaker and Charlie. Spinnaker did a version of Bully in the Alley that took it out to Warp 9 -- more Bob Marley than Helen Schneyer -- and bad luck, Charlie! He played only one note on his fifth string and then it parted. (Maybe good luck for the rest of us, though, since one of the band members in Spinnaker was threatening to get out his accordion if Charlie played banjo, on the theory that the evening would be as far in the gutter as it could get at that point, anyway.)
He did do some nice a cappella tunes including West Indies.
We will meet at Art E. Choke (as Charlie calls it) this afternoon 2pm, and Yola's Roadhouse tomorrow, for anyone wants to meet the Portland East crew. (Charlie's partner Judy is tied up during the day at conferences, but was around last night).
Blessings,
Barbara
