I'm sorry for your troubles, Bob. I'll just echo the 'get a second opinion' advice from the other 'Catters. If it is a nerve injury, it could very well heal; although it might take a few months. Check it out with another doctor -- and don't forget to ask if some sort of physical therapy might help out.
