I have a recording of Gail Fratar singing a lovely song titled One Sunday Evening. I wonder about the meaing of a line in it.
One Sunday evening
It happened here of late.
As I was a rambling,
Hard was my fate.
I went to my love's window
Expecting to get in
And instead of my great pleasure
My troubles then begin
I waited the hour
As patiently as Job
I saw that my name was
Not upon the cord
I saw there was another
Enjoying my room
So I took to the road
By the light of the moon
It's the line: "I saw that my name was not upon the cord." Does antone have an idea of what that refers to? I think the fellow's "love" is a prostitute but I can't figure the cord (or chord?) part. Thanks
