I'd never heard of Three Dog Night till now, and having done a Google search, found their lyrics page, which doesn't give attribution to the composers of this particular song. The Spinners Leighton refers to are the Liverpool Spinners, not the Detroit Spinners. The Liverpool Spinners recorded The Ink Is Black in, I think, the late 60s.
