Thread Name: Lyr Req: Golden River (Stuart Hamblen?)
Subject: Lyr Add: GOLDEN RIVER (from Jimmy Driftwood)
I recently came across an old recording of a song Golden River by Jimmy Driftwood. Can anyone explain the meaning to me? Bawdy, serious? I don't know what to think.

GOLDEN RIVER
(Jimmy Driftwood)

Chorus:
When I swim the Golden River in the morn
Give some pretty little girl my powder horn
When I swim the Golden River
How their little hearts will quiver
When I swim the Golden River in the morning

Tell the girls to come and busk me
Lord I know they're gonna cuss me
When I swim the Golden River in the morning
I'm dying with the colic
And I know the girls will frolic
When I swim the Golden River in the morning

Tell the girls to come and smack me
Lord I know they're gonna sack me
When I swim the Golden River in the morning
Give me one more dram of whisky
So that I'll be warm and frisky
When I swim the Golden River in the morning

Tell the girls to come and kiss me
Lord I know they're gonna miss me
When I swim the Golden River in the morning
I believe the Lord will bless me
If the Devil doesn't catch me
When I swim the Golden River in the morning
