Just one short comment to an earlier query in this thread about Napoleon and "The Green Linnet".

Joe Heaney who sang also Galway Shawl used to introduce "Green Linnet" by saying that the Irish had so many songs about Napoleon because they were looking for - and saw Napoleon- as a liberator.
