Thread Name: New Celtic/OT Jam in Frederick, MD
Subject: New Celtic/OT Jam in Frederick, MD
There is now a revival of the Tuesday night Celtic and Old Time music jam, which has moved to an Irish bar, Jennifers Restaurant, at 207 West Patrick Street, Frederick, MD; bar phone (301) 662-0373. The owner of the restaurant, Jennifer Daugherty, coincidently is the mayor of Frederick, and has long attempted to move our Tuesday night jam from the Market St Grill to her bar and grill. After several long discussions, this has now happened, primarily due to her restaurants extended hours, and ready tap. The Jam Master is Jeanean Martin, longtime Hammered Dulcimer player, and professional oils paint artist. Jeanean "bred true" and is the mother of several musically talented children, and the wife of Carl, whose slow rise every year in the Fleadh All-Ireland tenor banjo competions is the stuff of legends (at least around these parts). She can be contacted for further information at phone # (301) 540-2092, or at martinfamilyband@aol.com.
Last night we had some 12 musicians show up, three fiddles, two tenors and one long neck banjo, a hammered dulcimer, a mandolin, two guitars, and several whistles, flutes and squeeze boxes. The jam went from about 7:30 to 11PM. The old jam had a convention that the odd numbered weeks Tuesday nights were primarily Irish, with the even weeks of the month being primarily Old Time (though both were played on request).
For those who don't know, Frederick, Md is approximately 25 miles north of the Washington DC beltway on Route 270, and about 45 minutes west of Baltimore on Route 70. Jennifers is approximately five blocks west of the town's major north-south drag, Market St., on the north side of West Patrick St, just west of Bentz St. If you get lost, call the bar phone, or just ask any cop or fireman where the mayor's restaurant is...
