I've always thought that a vest looks nice when the jacket has to come off. Don't be suprised if you can find a good deal on a mans vest at a thrift shop that can contrast with a suit. You'll never be able to match a navy vest with a navy suit however. There are just too many variations on the same color. Go for a contrast.
