The blue asterisk on the number of posts means that the post has reached the length where it is broken into "pages" for easier viewing by people with slow machinery.

If you click on the thread name, you still get the whole thread.

If you click on the blue "number with asterisk" you get the first page, with a clicky on that page to go to the next and subsequent pages.
