Sadly, another grand old lady of the British screen has passed away. Phyllis Calvert who was born in 1915 has died. her first film appearance was in "The Arcadians" (1927) and her last one was in "Mrs. Dalloway" (1997). In a career spanning nearly eight decades she starred in such films as "Kipps" (1941); "Fanny by Gaslight" (1944); "Mandy" (1952) and "Oh! What a Lovely War" (1969) among many others. The ranks of the old-timers who brought such marvellous parts to the silver screen, is getting very thin folks and that is on both sides of the Herring Pond. Sleep well, dear lady.
