O.k. we've had no answer to Joe F's riddle about the lights, so I'll post the answer to stop the thread 'dropping out'.

The question was:
Well, since we're now doing puzzles as well as riddles, here's another one that has to do with lights:

A room has three lamps in it, each with its own switch -- but the switches are outside the room, next to the door, which is shut. The switches are all off. You may manipulate the switches in any way you like, and then are to enter the room and tell which switch goes with which lamp, without leaving the room.

Solution follows.




In the first room, switch on two of the three light switches.
After a couple of minutes, switch one of the two off.
Enter the other room.
The illuminated light matches the switch switched on and left on.
Of the two non illuminated lights, the one which matches the switch which was 'on' for a couple of minutes will be warmer than the one which has not been switched on at all.
