He will either get caught soon, or kill himself in some fiery conflagration. There won't be a trial, I feel pretty sure of that (there never is anymore; the gunmen always either commit suicide or get blown away by the SWAT team)."

Sure hope to hell that if this guy (and his/her accomplice, if the white van theory is correct) is caught, he/she doesn't turn out to be an Irish Traveller.
