Getting back to original meanings , in my world a *true musician* is someone whom demonstrates that they know their instrument of choice the way a true carpenter knows their tools; "buy their works ye shall know them".

Too many here got side-tracked with the term "professional" which was *not* the original question.

To wit: A "true musician" has more than a working familiarity with "craftsmanship " .
