Bing recorded the song May 23, 1938, with John Scott Trotter's Orchestra, and before summer's end it was nestled in the No. 1 position on the pop music charts. "Pocketful of Dreams" was written for the Paramount movie "Sing You Sinners" starring Bing Crosby, Fred MacMurray, Ellen Drew and Donald O'Connor.
