If it's an ordinary fairly beaten-up teacher's car, as opposed to a flashy expensive new one, there's more chance that it's been taken for a drive and might be left sonewhere.

Of course even if it's just been "borrowed" and left undamaged, there's a good chance that it'll just stand there to rot and be vandalised. Probably with a "Police Aware" sign stuck on the windscreen, which means they know it's there, but won't get round to doing anything about it.

This is the kind of technical fix that would help, if only it were available and affordable.
