Last time I saw this young UK band there were four of them but last Thursday at Jagz in Ascot (UK) they were down to two: harmonica and acoustic guitar (bass player left in the summer and lead singer & rhythm guitarist was out with a broken jaw after losing his mobile 'phone to a mugger in London). So a completely acoustic set: lots of Robert Johnson, Skip James, Son House material and not a bad audience (about 30) for a blues night. The guitarist handled most of the vocals and did a good job (doesn't sing like Clapton unlike most UK modern blues singers, [except Glenn Headley who does a good Howlin' Wolf], more like Bert Jansch). He played fingerstyle, slide and lap steel on the same acoustic guitar, and according to their web site has never had a lesson. He's only 24 (doesn't it make you want to spit?) and none of us felt cheated at seeing only half a band. Personally, I'd like to see more acoustic performers but the "play behind the head" plank spankers bring in a bigger crowd.
