Maybe I'm naturally oversensitive, or maybe someone just slipped me decaf coffee this morning, but feelings of inferiority are characteristic of the most contemptible lot of rascals I've ever seen. For the sake of review, people who use the BS filter appear to believe that the Universe belongs to them by right. That claim illustrates a serious reasoning fallacy, one that is pandemic in their insults. Then again, as our society continues to unravel, more and more people will be grasping for straws, grasping for something to hold onto, grasping for something that promises to give them the sense of security and certainty that they so desperately need. These are the kinds of people that people who use the BS filter prey upon. If they continue to utilize questionable and illegal forum-dominating techniques, the result can be a tone-deafness, a cluelessness, on matters that are at the center of experience for vast segments of the population. I heard through the grapevine that people who use the BS filter's spout language which is turgid and incomprehensible. Whether or not this rumor is true, they think that all major world powers are controlled by a covert group of "insiders". However, if self-absorbed rotters really believed in equality, they wouldn't make mountains out of molehills.
When asked to mend their ways, people who use the BS filter will give other people a wink and a smile, but when the wheels begin to turn, it's business as usual. No matter what else we do, our first move must be to educate everyone about how this is typical of the kind of noise they enjoy making. That's the first step: education. Education alone is not enough, of course. We must also announce that we may need to picket, demonstrate, march, or strike to stop people who use the BS filter before they can make human life negligible and cheap.
Defeatism is not merely an attack on our moral fiber. It is also a politically motivated attack on knowledge. Curiously, people who use the BS filter espouse philosophies which will have serious consequences -- very serious consequences. And we ought to begin doing something about that. I can't stress this enough, but people who use the BS filter try to make the rest of us think the way they want us to think, not by showing us evidence and reasoning with us, but by understanding how to push our emotional buttons. I'd like to finish with a quote from a private e-mail message sent to me by a close friend of mine: "The struggle to make the world safe for democracy takes center stage these days, both locally and nationwide, and that will not be altered by incontinent persons who got about with live parrots perched on their shoulders and recite doggerel of a nihilistic nature while posturing as patriots!".
