The group in which I currently play guitar needs a bassist. I took college work on a standard upright and, for twenty years or so, played as secondary or chief guitarist of the "folk" group to which I belonged.

I am a folk guitarist of the old school. You know, the guys and girls who are out there with no backup - wound strings are bass notes and the other two strings are for melody and harmony.

So I need an Acoustic/Electric Bass. What are the best ones you have played? What are the best ones you have played that cost less than $500?
