I am a Scot and frequently sing songs from other countries but retain my own accent. Any song in the tradition is yours if you want it, personally I'm delighted if anyone wants to help keep Scots songs alive by singing them. One thing I would say is to find out as much as you can about the language and ask if there are any words or phrases you're unsure of - this forum is probably as good as any to do so.
