There are several kinds of people. Some honestly don't know they are causing hurt and will stop if told how their words or actions affect others. Some do know that they are causing hurt, but feel they have a higher purpose and it is a necessary but unfortunate consequence of pursuing the higher purpose, such as stopping a war.
