Also, lots of words with letters that are either silent or barely hinted at, making non-French-speakers absolutely incapable of saying them without making fools of themselves.

They also gave me my last name, though I have absolutely no idea how many generations back I would have to go to find a full-blooded Frenchman in the family tree.
