Subject: Tech: Satellite Internet: anyone got it?
I'm working on a paper about satellite-based internet service for rural residents. Any mudcatters use this?

The most available version here is Bell Expresvu Direc-PC, which is satellite download only, you still use your phone line for uploads, and the download speed is not that fast compared to DSL or cable. The only real upside is that you can get it anywhere you can set up an Expressvu satellite dish.

I understand Direc-PC is also available in the States, anyone tried it?

I am interested in your experience with cost and performance: is it consistent in speed? (Reports I have heard suggest otherwise).

Two-way satellite service is probably the one that will be actually useful for the rural masses, I suspect. Anyone got this?

Music tie-in? Well, you can download music faster, but for managing my mp3.com site, a service that doesn't increase my upload speed at all, and still ties up my phone line, is not worth the money. So I'm sticking with dialup at the moment.

if you prefer, e-mail me
