16. Like Rick, I sucked at in-school sports. I could go home and play baseball or football in a vacant lot and do just as well as any of the other kids in the neighborhood. But in a school setting I couldn't play worth shit. I guess it was a sort of stage-fright due to knowing other kids were watching (which is sort of odd considering that I don't get the least bit nervous performing music in front of large audiences). In high school I avoided the issue by being on the track and cross-country teams. I really didn't like running all that much, and was not really all that fast a runner, but it gave me the option of just running during gym class instead of having to play ball. Also, athletes got automatic "A"s in gym class and I had been getting "C"s before.

17. The only time I ever got straight "A"s in all twelve years of public school was in the very last six-week grading period of my senior year. As that final report card was mailed out instead of given out in class, I received exactly no public recognition for the feat.
