I had a diabetic cat. She was about 17 years old when she was diagnosed, due to weight loss. We gave her insulin daily after that. Then, about a year later, she started getting sickly again, culminating in kidney failure, which finally forced us to have her put down. But she had a good year, and we're glad we made the decision to use insulin, although we worried about it at first.

The vet tech who taught us how to give the shots said he had a 20-year-old cat that he had been giving shots for most of its life. I hope you will be as successful as he was.
