HAWTHORN

CLOSE-LEAVED trees with bowers bedight-
    Hawthorn red and hawthorn white;
    Crowns, with pearls and rubies spread—
Hawthorn white and hawthorn red.
To our Common comes the Spring
    Laying it with foamy billows;
Nightingales and thrushes sing
    Resting on its snowy pillows.
