Subject: RE: How Many Mudcatters Have been to Hull?
I have great memories of Hull. As a schoolboy athlete I ran in the English Schools Championships there, billeted over two nights with a family in Willerby. I also remember Notingham Forest beating Hull City 4-0 one Christmas Day. Wally Ardron scored all 4, one right foot shot, one left, and 2 headers, As a singer I had memorable gigs at the Blue Bell, the famous Folk Union One, and also at the Rugby with the great Ian (Jock) Manuel. He was a superb singer especially good on bothy ballads. I don't think he got the recognition he deserved. He sang really good songs in a rough-edged but musical voice, with a terrific sense of rhythm. There was a good club at South Cave too. I've never sung at the Maritime Festival but I'm willing!. Hull held a leading position in the folk revival at one time. It would be grand to see it rise again.
