Dale, if we're talkin' about the "first" American band to do "Fox..." wouldn't that be "Cliff Waldron and The New Shades of Grass, with Bill Emerson"? I heard them do it before the "Gentlemen".
By the way, I shouldn't have said that "The ..Scene" were my favourite band. I have sooooo many! The "Gentlemen's" first recordings hit me like a thunderbolt. I think the amazing super-agressive energy put in by Adcock and Duffy balanced the solidness of Waller to make one of the most exciting bands ever. Also they had great bass playing from Tom, Ed, and Bill. I first saw them when I was a callow youth in 1967 at Berryville, and I was blown away.
