Thread Name: Lyr ADD: Travelling through the Storm (Broomhall)
Subject: Lyr Add: TIME IS A TEMPEST (John Broomhall)
Yes, I learnt it from the Martin Pearson/ John Thompson recording as well, and my singing partner and I sing it quite often, with occasional added harmonies from our friend, Bill. We liked it so much that we wanted to include it on the CD we are recording. It was only after talking to John Broomhall at a festival in order to get his permission to record it that we discovered that the 3rd verse was written by John Thompson. John B told us that he has a couple more verses and he would send them to us. Now he has sent us the whole song and we noticed some of the wording all through the song is different from what we have been singing. We are not sure whether he has changed them or whether Martin Pearson and John Thompson changed them, but we are finding it hard to relearn something we thought we knew really well. I suspect the former is the case and it is a work in progress. I must say I rather like the last two verses. Anyway, here is the copy he sent me, word for word.

TIME IS A TEMPEST
(John Broomhall)

Time is a tempest and we are all travellers
We are all travellers, we are all travellers,
Time is a tempest and we are all travellers,
We're travellin' through the storm.

Chorus: So lift up your voices and sing of the wind and rain,
Sing of the wind and rain, sing of the wind and rain.
We'll lift up our voices and sing of the wind and rain
Travellin' on through the storm.

Our cities are crowded, the forests are falling,
War clouds above, angry voices keep calling;
Two minutes to midnight is no time for stalling,
Just time to share our love.

Chorus: So we'll lift up our voices...

They've poisoned the oceans and dammed the great rivers,
They've bulldozed the jungles, they're takers not givers,
And they say that it's progress, well it gives me the shivers,
We're in for a winter that's cold.

Chorus:

But there are places of beauty and pathways to guide us,
Sunrise and sunsets are never denied us;
With love in our hearts and true friends beside us
We can still reach the stars up above

Chorus: If we lift up our voices...

So we'll keep our arms wide through all kinds of weather,
Where there's sorrow and suffering we'll face it together,
And we'll turn this around if it takes us forever,
What else in the world can we do?

Chorus: But lift up our voices and sing of the wind and rain,
Sing of the wind and rain, sing of the wind and rain
We'll lift up our voices and sing of the wind and rain
We're travellin' through the storm.

We'd sorta like to sing "logged all the forests" rather than "bulldozed the jungles" We don't have jungles in Australia - bush, forests and desert - not jungles.
