1954 It is pay night in Plymouth, Portsmouth, Chatham,or anywhere similar. You are in a bar. Suddenly, silently, a lone matelot appears in the doorway. Listen on from there. Not much action, I'm afraid, and it's all over in seconds without a word being spoken, but it was a common enough sight once a fortnight back in the days of large fleets, uniforms ashore, plentiful sailors' bars and strong, gas-free beer.
