Mary--I have sound studio, but haven't used it before--it looks simple enough, but it does seem to require about 20mb to work--If you have 64mb of RAM, and your operating system may take up about 40mb, you will have only about 4mb available to run any other programs--

Recording programs take up a lot of RAM, and the files that they create can be huge, so it is generally a good idea to close down everything else while you are recording--
