On my father's side: my grandmother was a concert pianist who graduated from Lander College when she was 15, and my grandfather was head of the Music Dept. at the University of South Carolina. He was a singer and dabbled at collecting ballads. In the 1930's he collected ballads from Nathan Hicks and others at Beech Mountain, NC publishing only one book, "Beach Mountain Ballads" with G.Shirmer.
My mother is a pianist and teacher, my brother plays the harmonica and sings. I play guitar and sing. Because of my family, I decided to go into music full-time and have been able to support my family and enjoy performing and teaching.
