Sorry I didn't see your musings until today. I've fiddled with the words "Alburquerque" and "Albuquerque" and can't get more than a couple of small components in Spanish. I wondered if it might be a word with a Moorish influence (the "Al" beginning leads me down that deadend path).

I don't think "querque" and "kirk" correlate. Reminds me more of something in French. The Spanish around here for church is iglesia (isn't there always a loop back to music?). As in Julio. Maybe (ah ha! what a thought!) Julio Iglesia is a long lost ancestor of James Kirk!!!
