I have played in pickup groupings where the rule was "Whoever gets the gig names the band" - in order to avoid tax problems. Hence I have played in Glasgow with Audio Murphy, Sourrocks, Houghmagundy, Ba'heid MacBear, Eat The Breid, The Blue Sky Boys, and my favourite - Robbery With Violins.
In Cambridge, Mass, in the 1960s I performed with a group whose name transmuted over time: The Bow Street Irregulars became Happy Jack's Thrift Club became Happy Jack and the Orcs became The Shirefolk.
