There has to be a mix. If you just stick to singing the songs you know pretty surely will go down, that's a kind of betrayal, but if you just churn out new ones mechanically without singing them in, that's at least as bad.

What's good is when you sing a song you like, and maybe noone's ever commented on it, and suddenly someone picks it out as one they specially liked.
