I remember reading an article about the testing of the first atomic bomb - Fat Boy(?). The writer was shocked and disgusted over a lottery conducted by the technicians working on the Manhattan Project. They bet on whether or not the detonation would set fire to the earth's atmosphere and destroy the world. It was, of course, black humor. No one wanted to win that bet either.
