Psychologist identifies formula for happiness: An occupational psychologist claims to have reduced the search for happiness to a mathematical formula: P+(5E)+(3H). To reach a state of contentment you need personal traits (P) such as outlook on life, resilience and adaptability, according to Carol Rothwell, an occupational psychologist and life coach for Thomson, the holiday company. Added to this, you must fulfil "existence needs" (E) such as health, money and friends and "higher order needs" (H) such as sense of humour, ambitions and self-esteem. (The Times 06/01/03; p.6)
